Frequently Asked Questions
There are only a few gay cruise operators worldwide, all of which offer excellent packages. ‘Atlantis’ mainly uses very large ships and, as an American company, is not required to display final prices. This means that mandatory gratuities and port charges are always added on top of the cabin prices. ‘Vacaya’ is also an American company, whose ships are of medium size. They also offer luxury cruises at very high prices. “The Cruise”, in cooperation with the party La Demence, sails only in European waters, just like Spartacus, which makes the journey there cheaper. The on-board programme is heavily focused on parties lasting until the early hours of the morning. TUI’s so-called “Bunte Horizonte” are not gay cruises, but merely give that impression. In reality, they involve a very, very small group of gay participants on a standard cruise with a high proportion of children.
On board the Spartacus Cruise, there are two outdoor hot tubs and one indoor hot tub, as well as a dry sauna and a steam room. The ship has an exclusive nudist deck, which is open day and night and is connected by a staircase to an indoor darkroom.
Smoking is permitted on board in designated areas. These include seating areas by both pools and a smoking lounge on Deck 12. Bringing alcoholic drinks on board is not permitted. In addition to the bars, alcohol can be purchased from the on-board duty-free shop. The use of drugs may result in expulsion from the ship.
The cruise fare includes tea, coffee and water with meals. You can purchase a range of different alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink packages before departure or on board. The à la carte drinks are very reasonably priced compared to international cruise lines.
Guests on the Spartacus Cruise come from 70 different countries. The languages spoken on board are English and German. All age groups are represented, although the majority of guests are over 35. Women make up less than 1% of the guests. Thanks to a partnership with cruise4bears, a group of bears travels on board every time, making the Spartacus Cruise a very inclusive gay cruise.
The dress code on board our gay cruise is casual. You are welcome to wear shorts at all meals. For hygiene reasons, we ask that you do not wear swimwear in the restaurants. You are welcome to wear a costume to the themed parties, though this is not a requirement.
The ship is connected to the modern ‘Starlink’ satellite system. Various Wi-Fi packages are available for purchase. As the cruises mainly take place within the EU, it is cheaper to buy any SIM card in Europe. These are valid across borders, regardless of where they were purchased.
On our gay cruise, there are a large number of single cabins available, which can be booked for a surcharge of 20% to 40%. There is also a Single Match programme, which allows guests to share a cabin at no extra cost. Guests are matched based on criteria such as language, sleeping habits and age.
The Spartacus Cruise offers its own cultural programme featuring international artists and DJs from the scene. Every day there is a different themed party where guests can dress up. There are also events such as pool games, karaoke and singles’ dinners. In addition, the cruise line offers an extensive programme of shore excursions, which are subject to a fee.
The organiser does not provide any information regarding the necessary travel documents. Guests must determine these themselves based on their nationality and the countries they will be visiting. For EU residents, an ID card is usually sufficient. However, a passport is recommended, as some ports may not be within the Schengen Area.
It is also recommended that you take out travel insurance for a gay cruise, as illness or other unforeseeable events do not entitle you to a free cancellation. Under European law, the travel sum paid is 100% protected against the organiser’s insolvency.
A deposit of 20% is payable upon booking the trip. The remaining 80% is due four weeks before the trip. nicko Cruises accepts payment by Visa and Mastercard, SEPA direct debit or bank transfer. The Spartacus Cruise is subject to nicko Cruises’ General Terms and Conditions for promotional trips. These set out the cancellation fees based on the time of cancellation, which are also available on the Spartacus Cruises website.
English and German are the languages spoken on board the Spartacus Cruise. To date, guests from 77 countries have been on board, which is why all announcements, the on-board entertainment and the menus are bilingual.
For safety reasons, electronic wheelchairs and e-scooters are generally not permitted on board.
Unfortunately, due to the way the ship is built, it is not fully accessible. Please contact us so that we can discuss how we can make your trip possible.
